Portrait Project

Video Installation. Single-channel video in an infinite loop, color, silent.

This work gathers all the ID photos taken of people close to the artist from birth to the present and uses AI technology to blend these past images into one. These memories, fed into the machine's relentless calculations, emerge as a synthesized result that gazes back at itself with an unfamiliar, indifferent expression. If the essence of photography is death, then when these static images of death encounter the AI’s resurrection of images, a sense of eeriness arises. It reflects the dark undercurrent of our big data—both us and not us—an ambiguous, almost deceptive personal identity. This cold yet slightly eerie and sorrowful image gazes back, like a looming interrogation, challenging our reflections on life, memory, and the act of remembrance.
